Installing your Root Cellar

cellar installationYour Rainy Day Root Cellar is now built to your specifications and paid for. We arrange a time to meet on your site and coordinate the delivery of your cellar.

Depending on the size of your cellar, we will also coordinate to have a crane on site to set the structure. Please be sure to review your site and travel route to your site for low power lines, excessively steep grades, lack of sufficient turn around area, narrow or low-weight bearing bridges or culverts and other access considerations. It is extremely important that large semi trailers with very heavy loads can get to your site, get unloaded next to your hole, turn around and depart. The same goes for the crane. If the delivery trucks can’t make it, things get expensive in a hurry. They will charge for delivery time to and from, loading and unloading time, and any stand-by time they may incur while decisions are being made. None of us wants this to happen. If your site is too steep, too tight or otherwise impossible to take delivery, Rainy Day Root Cellars can provide you with a cast-in-place option for your cellar. This means we will have your cellar engineered and designed, to be built in place with all the same design options of your choosing. Basically, it will be like a poured concrete basement with a poured in place concrete lid, with properly placed and controllable venting. While we can and will be happy to do this for you, the pre-engineered, pre-cast option is preferable for a multitude of reasons – price, timeliness, ease and quickness of installation.

vents and pipesOnce your Rainy Day Root Cellar is set in place, the trucks and crane depart and our crews go to work. Linkseal is placed in the cores around the pipes to prevent any water infiltration around the vent and exhaust stand pipes. Joints are sealed with the best Sika products available around joints and pipe penetrations. The all steel, American made Bilco cellar doors are then installed and locks are tested. At this point, if any interior options of shelving or water tanks have been purchased, that installation occurs. Everything should be wrapped up in a maximum of two days, from the time our crew shows up to the time you are handed the keys!

We want you to be perfectly satisfied with your new Rainy Day Root Cellar. Your cellar will last forever and your complete satisfaction is our utmost concern. Our crew will invite you to walk through the cellar with them and perform an inspection on every single aspect of your cellar. We will ask you to go through the checklist and sign the acceptance sheet upon your satisfactory inspection.
